October 31, 2010By Alan Richards of Griffin, Georgia High School Football
Casey Moody threw two touchdown passes and Zay Sharp ran for two more as the Spalding High Jaguars finished the 2010 season on a positive note, whipping the young Locust Grove Wildcats 35-0 Friday night in a penalty-laden Region 4-AAA contest at Memorial Stadium.
Spalding finishes at 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the region while the 2nd-year Wildcats drop to 1-8, 1-7.
The Jags got the scoring started early on senior night, with Moody throwing a 3-yard bootleg pass to senior fullback Warren Fish for the 7-0 first quarter lead. Sharp scored his first TD on a 3-yard run in the second quarter with 8 minutes left for a 14-0 lead and after forcing a Locust Grove punt, Spalding scored again.
Moody threw a nice 53-yard bomb to senior wideout Martez Terrell, who was tackled at the Wildcat 2. Two plays later, Moody found wideout Ronnie Owens for a 2-yard TD and the Jags led 21-0 at halftime.
Locust Grove engineered a 7-minute drive at the start of the third quarter, driving the ball all the way to the Spalding 1-yard line. But Jags seniors Montae Williams, Chris Mayes, Warren Fish, Ricky Brittain and others stuffed Wildcats quarterback Keenan Wise at the line of scrimmage on fourth down to end the Wildcats threat.
In the final period, Sharp ran for a 5-yard TD and sophomore Elijah Hastings had a 16-yard TD run with 14 seconds remaining for the final 35-0 margin.
