The Spalding High Jaguars football team held strong in the first half, but once again lost steam in the second half, falling to the Henry County WarHawks 28-7 Thursday night in Region 4-AAA action at Memorial Stadium. Spalding (2-6 overall, 2-4 region) tied the game at 7 with 1:16 left in the second quarter, thanks to a 1-yard run by Jags quarterback Powell Krepps. The Jags looked to go into halftime tied with Henry (4-3, 4-1), but WarHawks quarterback Chris Moody engineered a 6-play, 55-yard drive culminating with a 27-yard TD pass to running back Stephon Brown, who tiptoed into the corner of the end zone for the 14-7 WarHawk lead at the half. Brown scored Henry's first TD on a 32-yard run in the first quarter. The late WarHawks TD seemed to take some starch out of the Jags, as Spalding mustered only one first down in the third quarter. The Jags defense held Henry down in the third, but the unit wore down in the fourth quarter. Henry Co. running back Jonathan Jean-Bart scored the game's final two touchdowns in the fourth (6 and 33 yards) for the 28-7 final margin. Spalding hits the road next week, traveling to Tyrone, Ga., Friday, Oct. 22 to face the first-place and No. 2-state ranked Sandy Creek Patriots in Region 4-AAA action.
