SB: 4A #8 Greenwood shuts out host Indian Creek, 7-0

March 21, 2012
By E. Shawn Aylsworth of Greenwood High School

Four players had two hits each, while sophomore Brittany Gray and junior Kelly Pevely combined on a four-hit shutout March 20 to lead visiting Greenwood to a 7-0 victory at Indian Creek.

The Woodmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead after their first at-bat before adding another run in the second and three more in the fifth. Pevely, junior Alex Lovelace, Gray, and senior Anne Schwomeyer rapped out two-hit evenings, with the latter driving in a game-high three runs and Gray bringing home two to help the cause.

Gray got the win, giving up two hits while striking out three and walking two in four full innings pitched. Pevely got the save by allowing two hits and striking out two over the final three frames for Greenwood, which finished the 2011 season ranked seventh in Class 4A.

Kathy Phillips took the loss for the Braves, surrendering 10 hits and six earned runs while striking out two and walking six in going the distance.
