Butts Named Student of the Week

Freshman Mackenzie Butts has been selected as Greene Central’s Student of the Week for the third week in September. Butts is currently taking Algebra I, English 9, Health Team Relations, Physical Education, and World Geography as her first semester classes.
“Mackenzie is a wonderful student who exhibits a great work ethic on a daily basis. She always has her homework, studies, does well on all assignments, sits front and center, participates, and is always positive!” said Mathematics Teacher Carrie Miller.
Butts says her favorite class is Physical Education because she likes health and is an active person, so she is doing something she likes in the class. She is a member of the women’s varsity tennis team. She has started at number six singles for most of the season. Butts plans to be a member of the softball team at Greene Central this spring.
“My freshman year, so far, has been kind of stressful. The amount of stress is manageable though. I just deal with the stress by taking things slowly and doing things one at a time. I do like high school though because you have more freedom here than in middle school. You definitely have to be mature enough to handle the freedom,” said Butts.
“I’m very proud of Mackenzie for winning this award. It’s very difficult for a freshman to juggle starting on a varsity athletic team and academics, but she is doing a great job of handling both. Mackenzie is a very responsible young lady. I think even as a freshman she realizes the value of education,” said Academically/Intellectually Gifted Teacher Donald L. Clark.
“I’m looking forward to being more successful and more competitive in school because I want to make something of myself by my senior year. Basically, I want to feel like I achieved what I wanted to achieve. After I graduate from high school, I hope to attend college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to major in the medical field,” said Butts.
She is the daughter of Lisa Smith of Snow Hill.
