Junior Tyrieshia Campbell was named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the first week in February.
She was nominated by her cheerleading coach Sarah McLawhorn for always being positive, prompt, and respectful of her peers and adults and for putting 110% into everything she does and for always encouraging others to do the same.
“I’ve enjoyed cheerleading since I was little,” Campbell exclaimed. “One of the biggest reasons I got into it was because I wanted to follow in the footsteps of my older sister, Ikeizja Langley, who is a cheerleader in college.”  Campbell has been cheering for Greene County since her seventh grade year in middle school.
“I’m really crunching down this year, since it’s the only one left before I start applying for college,” said Campbell. She is currently enrolled in Spanish I, Foods II, Chemistry, and English 11.
Besides cheerleading, she’s also a member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Campbell would like to attend Duke University, but hasn’t decided on a major yet.
“I would love to be a cheerleader in college, but I don’t know if I’d have enough time. I don’t think I’d like to pursue a career in professional cheerleading, but maybe in a few years my mind will be changed.”
Campbell is the daughter of Calvin Campbell of Snow Hill and Sabrina Moore of Goldsboro.
