Junior Kasey Turnage has been named Greene Central’s Student of the Week for the first week in April.

Turnage is a part of many extra-curricular activities. She is a member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She is also a member of the varsity volleyball team.

“Kasey is an active member of our FCA group. She has attended all meetings and events we have had this year. Her Christian spirit is evident in her daily interactions with peers and teachers at GCHS,” said FCA leader Carol Taylor.

“Kasey is very determined and motivated to succeed. She is open to trying new skills and ideas related to the game to help improve the team. Kasey keeps a good attitude and spirit each week, which easily rubs off on her teammates,” said volleyball coach James Campbell.

Her classes this semester include ECU Second life Biology and Website Design, Advanced Topics in Journalism, Honors Chemistry, and Advanced Functions and Modeling.

“Kasey is one of the most responsible students in the entire school. She has played an instrumental role in the success of the school newspaper this semester,” said Advanced Topics in Journalism teacher Donald Clark.

Her future plans include going to East Carolina University to become a Nurse.

“I think I was awarded this because I always work hard at school,” said Turnage.

“Kasey is a wonderful student. She is always on task and doing her best work,” said the teacher of her Advanced Functions and Modeling class Rebecca Burris.

“I like Ms. Burris because she is a good teacher, and she really knows her material,” said Turnage.

“Kasey excels on every assignment or task I give the class. She is able to not only work well independently, but also take on a leadership role in group assignments,” said Burris.

“She positively affects the atmosphere of the classroom and sets an example for other students to follow, despite being one of the only juniors in my senior class,” said Burris.

She is the daughter of Dean and Angie Turnage of Shine.
