"Posse" Wins February Ram Pride Award
April 7, 2014By Donald Clark of Greene Central High School
The Greene Central Ram Pride Award for the month of March was awarded to the “posse” by resource officer Shannon Brown at the February staff meeting.
The Ram Pride Award was started in the spring of 2002 and is given monthly to a teacher or faculty member who shows dedication and hard work at Greene Central High School.
During the next faculty meeting, the teacher who previously received the award nominates and presents the award to teachers whom they believe have gone the extra mile to show the qualities of an outstanding staff member.
Brown selected five staff members at the meeting in February. She chose Dana Hedgepeth, Tammy Oakes, Sandra Stocks, B.J. Bass, and Julie Batchelor for the February Ram Pride Award. This month was an exception to the norm, considering the “posse” members were chosen.
“I’m honored to be chosen for the February Ram Pride Award,” said Stocks.
“They show a lot of school spirit,” said Brown. “They all believe in helping the kids and making the school environment safe.”
These five are all over the school in various subjects. Hedgepeth is a math teacher, Oakes is the school secretary, Stocks is the multimedia teacher, Bass is the physical education teacher, and Batchelor is a CTE teacher.
“These teachers all do whatever it takes to go that extra yard to help not only the students but to keep an extra eye out for me,” Brown added.
“With all of us helping Officer Brown, we create a tight-knit school, and we all work together,” Hedgepeth mentioned.
Oakes enjoys reading, shopping, and going to the beach during her free time.
“I actually started working at Greene Central as a teacher assistant, and now I’m the secretary,” Oakes said. “I love the students and staff here. I have made friendships along the way, so hopefully I have touched someone along the way,” Oakes added.
Like many other teachers, Batchelor likes to see students excel in everything they do and enjoys teaching here because of programs like CTE.
Batchelor is one, among many staff members, who shows school spirit through sports events because she is regularly involved with her two sons who play football and baseball.
Bass and Stocks were honored to be a part of this “posse” because they take pride in helping Brown around the school. They know it takes more than one person to keep control of all Greene Central students.
The five staff members that were chosen for February’s Ram Pride Award like working at Greene Central for various reasons. The Ram Pride Award winners show integrity, pride, and support.
