Greene Central HOSA headed to Greensboro
March 25, 2014Greene Central High School
Greene Central’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club will be traveling to state conference in Greensboro on Wednesday, March 26th and will be staying until Saturday.
Twenty-one students, along with HOSA advisors Lisa Wilson and Wanda Gay, will be traveling to the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro where the conference will take place.
Some students will be attending the event for the first time. "It's very exciting to be traveling to state conference for the first time, I'm eager to experience it and hopefully learn new things," said freshmen Allison Shackleford.
Others are veterans at this conference. "This is my fourth year going to HOSA state conference, and it’s always a great experience to meet new people and to learn about the latest things going on in health care. I always have a good time, and it's nice when you come home with a medal," said senior Davis Wilson.
Due to the fact that this is an overnight trip, it can be costly to some students. To help with the fees of the trip, HOSA put on two fundraisers. The first fundraiser was a BBQ plate sale that took place Saturday, March 1st at Greene Central High School; the second was a Krispy Kreme doughnut sale that ended Friday, March 7th.
The school will be fielding three different Public Service Announcement teams. Those teams include Team 1 (Katie Avery, Davis Wilson, Laettner Fulford, Cameron Fulford), Team 2 (Tiarra Brown, Cameron Evans, Totyana Hagan, Victoria Thompson), and Team 3 (Brianna Blow, Keosha Ham, Alexis Langley, Ashley Murray, Jadia Taylor).
The school will also be fielding two separate Health Education teams: Team 1 (Haley Andrews, Megan Gay, Chelsey Jones, and Brianna Kelly), and Team 2 (Ikeiza Hardy, Allison Shackleford).
In addition Rebeca Perez will be competing in the Home Health Aide competition, and Taylor Crutchfield will take on the Prepared Speaking competition.
"I’m very excited to travel back to Greensboro with this group of students, and I am looking forward to hopefully making it back to Disney World for national competition," stated HOSA advisor Lisa Wilson.
