Senior Alex Gilbert has been named Greene Central’s Student of the Week for the last week in February.

Gilbert is a part of many extra-curricular activities. He is a varsity football and tennis player, he is part of the Quiz Bowl team and Mock Trial team, and also volunteers for the Bull Head Fire Department.

"Alex is living proof that a student can excel in athletics, extra-curricular activities, and academics all at the same time if one budgets his or her time properly," said Donald Clark.

His classes this semester include AP United States History, AP English Language and Composition, Advanced Functions and Modeling, and Honors Civics and Economics.

“My favorite class would have to be AP U.S. History because I have a love for history, and it’s good to learn something new,” said Gilbert.

"Alex has improved tremendously during his high school academic career. His work ethic, writing, and critical thinking skills will carry him far in life," said Clark.

His future school plans include East Carolina University in Greenville or The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for Nursing and a Master Degree  in Business. His future career plans include being a nurse.

“He has been one of the hardest workers in my class all year long and has avoided ‘senioritis,’” said Clark.

“I am a studious, ambitious, outgoing student,” Gilbert expressed.

“I think I was awarded this because of because I am able to keep up the work and grade regardless of the distractions,” said Gilbert.

“His work in AP U.S. History and AP English Language and Composition has been truly outstanding on a daily basis this year,” said Clark.

"I like for seniors to finish up strong, working hard until the last moment of high school, and Alex is certainly doing that thus far this year.   His grades are right up there at the top of the class almost every day," expressed Clark.

“I like Mr. Clark because he is just like a coach; he pushes me to the limit and never takes a day off,” said Gilbert.

He is the son of Steve and Kathy Gilbert of Bull Head.
