Joyner Named Athlete of the Week

February 20, 2014
By Donald Clark of Greene Central High School

Freshman Tahliyah Joyner has been chosen as Greene Central’s Athlete of the week for the first week in February.

She was chosen by the women’s basketball coach Bryan Tripp for her dedication to the sport and improvement during the season.

Joyner is currently taking Fashion Merchandising, Weightlifting, Microsoft Word, and World History as her second semester classes.

Joyner has played basketball for two years and is a point guard.

“Tahliyah is a freshman, and she struggled at the beginning of the year because she wasn’t used to the game. It just didn’t come naturally to her,” said Tripp

“I believe I was chosen for Athlete of the Week because of my hard work during the season,” said Joyner.

"Tahliyah is a point guard. The point guard controls a lot of the game, and she does a good job of that. She handles the ball well," said Tripp.

In her free time, Joyner likes to draw and dance. She also likes to listen to music and play basketball with her friends.

“I like basketball because it keeps me in shape and I’m good at it,” said Joyner.

"Tahliyah is a spark plug and I enjoy having her on the team," said Tripp.

After three more years of high school, she hopes to major in Criminal Justice at North Carolina State University.

Joyner is the daughter of Latisha and Robert Joyner of Snow Hill.
