February 20, 2014Greene Central High School
By Shoniqua Wellington
Katie Avery is an outstanding senior who is 18 years old, works hard, loves to have fun, and thinks of herself as an easy going person.
Her classes this semester include English 12, Advanced Functions and Modeling, Advanced Topics In Journalism, and Foods II. She is an active member of the Heath Occupation Students Of America.
One of her favorite holidays is the fourth of July, where she enjoys being at the beach and spending time with her family. Avery “has a hobby of shopping, because she likes having new and nice things.”
When it comes to school, Avery is not a big fan because she does not think school is for everybody. She currently works at Piggly Wiggly in Kinston, “I love my job because I like working with people,” said Avery.
As a senior she is ready to graduate and pursue her goals of being a Dental Hygienist. Avery said she wants to become a dental hygienist because she “has always had a weird obsession with teeth.”
Civics and Economics teacher Allen Wooten said, “Avery is a good student who works hard and has a very successful future ahead of her.” She plans to attend Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington.
In ten years Avery hopes to be living in Wilmington, owning a home, pursuing her dream as a Dental Hygienist, and hopes to be married.
Avery wants to live in Wilmington because it’s somewhere new and close to the beach. She is the daughter of Phillip and Paula Turner of Kinston.
