Johnson named Athlete of the Week
January 16, 2014By Donald Clark of Greene Central High School
Freshman Unique Johnson has been named Greene Central's Athlete of the Week for the second week of September.
"It's a honor to be recognized for my hard work playing football and only being a freshman," said Johnson.
Johnson plays runnning back and slot on Greene Central's junior varsity football team.
"I nominated Johnson because he had an outstanding game. He scored three touchdowns versus a very tough Southwest Edgecombe team," said Junio Varsity football Head Coach David Bryant.
"My favorite moment playing this year so far is when I ran my first ball and scored my first touchdown of my high school career in a game against North Pitt," commented Johnson.
In his free time, Johnson enjoys hanging out with friends and family, running, and practicing football to become the best player he can be.
"He brings want, effort, and fight to the team. He always goes the extra mile to be the best player possible," said teammate Tychis Armstrong.
"Knowing that I have to keep my grades up to play sports motivates me to stay in school and always put 100% in my academics," said Johnson.
Johnson's advice to upcoming players is to work hard at your dreams and never fall short of expectations.
"He is a very explosive player, and can make something into nothing through his effort and toughness on the field," said Coach Bryant.
He is the son of Felicia Johnson of Hookerton.
