Sutton named Student of the Week

By Ryann Griffin

Junior Malik Sutton has been named Greene Central’s Student of the Week for the third week of December.

“It feels awesome being Student of the Week, and it’s going to push me to keep on working hard,” said Sutton.

His classes this semester include Foods ?, World History, English 11, and Marching Band. He recognizes Marching Band as his favorite class.

“I have been involved with band since the sixth grade, and I have learned how to work as a team and help others,” mentioned Sutton.

“Malik is an amazing student. He is always trying his best to succeed,” said Band Director Joey Rackley.

Sutton is involved in Beta Club and Family Career and Community Leaders of America. He said that these clubs give him a way to be involved in school and get out of his comfort zone.

“Malik is a well-mannered young man. He does his work, studies, gets along with his peers, always comes to class prepared, and makes no trouble in the classroom,” said English 11 Teacher Tonya Ebron.

During his free time Sutton enjoys listening to music and watching movies. His hobbies include playing the trombone and video games.

Sutton is interested in attending Lenoir Community College and majoring in criminal justice, and becoming a lawyer.

“I love helping people get out of a tough situation. As a lawyer, I will be able to help them and convince people with evidence that my client is not guilty,” said Sutton.

“Malik is a great role model because he has all the qualities every teacher looks for in a great student,” said Ebron.

His advice to others who wish to become Student of the Week includes listening to your teacher, paying attention in class, always trying your best, and leading by example.

He is the son of Sherrie Benjamin of Snow Hill.
