Walker Named Student of the Week

By Harrison Welch

Junior Abram Walker has been named Greene Central’s Student of the Week for the second week in February.

Walker is currently enrolled in Spanish II, Advanced Placement Macroeconomics, Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition, and Library Science. He identifies AP English Literature and Composition as his  favorite class.

“AP English has allowed me to understand literature at such a deeper level than I could have on my own.  I now have a much greater appreciation of literature because of the class,” said Walker.

"I have been very impressed with Abram this year. He returned to school very serious about academics, and he has had a great year. His work in AP English and AP Macroeconomics has been exemplary,” said AP English and AP Macroeconomics teacher Donald Clark.

In his free time, Walker enjoys reading, playing his bass guitar, and practicing armature blacksmithing.

Walker is a member of Greene Central’s varsity wrestling team, the Ramblers, the Student Success Fellows, and the Young Minority Male Initiative.

"Abram's critical thinking skills are truly outstanding. He comes to school to learn each and every day. He's also had an outstanding season in wrestling,” said Donald Clark.

“Being named Student of the Week is a great honor. I’m glad that my teachers feel I am working hard and meeting their expectations,” said Walker.

Walker is undecided with his college plans but he is thinking about attending North Carolina State University and studying industrial engineering.

He is the son of Benjamin and Charis Walker of Jason.
