Baker Named Athlete of the Week

By Josh Gooding

Senior Mike Baker was named Greene Central's Athlete of the Week for the fourth week of October.

Baker was nominated for his outstanding performance during the homecoming football game on Friday, October 2nd.

"Mike is a huge player for the team this year; his constant improvement has made a big difference," said head football coach Kenneth Grantham.

"Winning the homecoming game this year meant the world to me.  We lost last year, so winning my senior year means a lot," said Baker.

"Mike is an inspiration to the entire team this year; he is a true leader on and off of the field," said Grantham.

Baker is currently enrolled in Weightlifting, Civics and Economics, Laboratory Assistant, and English 12.

"I don't plan to go to college after graduation; I really want to join the Marines and serve my country to the best of my ability," said Baker.

Baker is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the president of the Save Club.

"Senior year has been a blast so far; you get to go to more parties and have less work than before.  If you do what you are supposed to before you get here, it's a lot easier," said Baker.

He is the son of Michael Evans of Snow Hill.
