Mooring Named Athlete of the Week
May 22, 2012By Donald Clark of Greene Central High School
Austin Mooring was named Greene Central’s Athlete of the Week for the third week in April.
He was chosen by the junior varsity baseball coach David Bryant for having a positive attitude and working well with others on the team.
“Austin always wants to pitch in our biggest games. Recently he pitched in two important games against Tarboro and Farmville. They were both close, and in the end we were able to come out on top.” commented Coach Bryant.
Mooring has liked playing baseball since he was a child and plans to continue playing after high school.
“I’ve played baseball for nine years now. It’s my favorite sport to play over anything else. I was on jayvee at the beginning of this season, but eventually my coaches moved me up to help on varsity.” said Mooring.
“Apart from his passion for the game, Austin also has a positive attitude on the team, and he works great with the other athletes.” coach Bryant added.
“I think I was chosen for Athlete of the Week because of my dedication to baseball. I don’t miss any practices, and I always do my best in games. Also, I’m a versatile player since I can play infield and outfield,” said Mooring.
Some of Mooring’s hobbies include baseball, going to White Lake, and playing video games. He also attends Young Life on Monday nights.
His advice to upcoming players so that they can earn the honor of Athlete of the Week one day is to always work hard and do your best.
Mooring is currently enrolled in English 9, Algebra I, Sports Entertainment and Marketing, Honors World History, and Health and Physical Education. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He plans on attending East Carolina University after high school.
He is the son of Jim and Michelle Mooring of Snow Hill.
