Great American Rivalry Series

by Jon Ford

On this windy night in Hampton VA, the fans came in bunches. Both teams were pumped for the Great American Rivalry series. The two schools are known for their talent and it was clear from kick-off it would be a hard-fought battle.

The 1st quarter was all about defense with the score 0-0. It wasn't until late in the 2nd quarter when the Crabbers rushed for  the first touchdown of the game. Marshawn Williams and the 0-line put seven on the board to make the score going into the halftime 7-0.

The game was a little bit of the same in the second half, except this time Phoebus put the ball in the air to tie the game up at 7-7 on a great pass and catch right down the middle.

With both teams playing outstanding defense, it was going to come down to the final seconds on the clock; in fact, it took extra minutes. The game was went into overtime and Phoebus took the ball first and came away with a field goal making the score was 10-7.

The Crabbers had a chance to win the Great American Rivalry Series trophy and with a quick halfback draw, that's exactly what they did. The final score was 13-10 Hampton.
