On a cold and chilly night, A.L. Brown took on Concord in the oldest rivalry in North Carolina for the annual Battle for the Bell. With both teams coming in with good records (Brown 9-0 and Concord 8-1) this game was a big one for both teams.

The first quarter started out with Brown’s star player Damien Washington leading the Wonders down the field and scoring on a two-yard rushing touchdown. Concord’s first possession was short-lived when they fumbled on the second play, leading to another rushing touchdown by Brown. After a quick Concord 4 and out, Brown capitalized again with a 32-yard field goal to go up 17-0. The turnover bug struck again on Concord’s next possession when a pass was caught then fumbled, leading to another rushing touchdown for Brown by Kalif Phillips, making the score Brown 24-Concord 0.

The second quarter started out good for the Concord Spiders as they marched down the field and scored on a touchdown pass to make the score 24-7. After trading fumbles, Concord connected on a 35-yard pass, setting up a touchdown pass to Jared Wright as the Spider cut Brown’s lead to 24-14. But that didn't stop Brown from marching down the field and connecting on a 25-yard touchdown pass just before the half and taking a 31-14 lead to the locker room.

The fourth quarter saw the start of a magical come-back for Concord with a rushing touchdown, but the Spider were denied on the 2-point conversion, bringing the game 31-26. Concord then recovered a fumble after pouch-kick for the kickoff. But the excitement was short lived as the Spiders could not convert the 4th down opportunity and gave the ball back to Brown, who ran out the clock. Kalif Phillips was named MVP and the final score was 31-26.
