St. John's 27-Gonzaga 21

The annual rivalry game between St. John's and Gonzaga carried extra weight this year, as St. John's needed the win to ensure their season continued into the playoffs. Gonzaga came into the game heavily favored, but that did not seem to faze St. John's as they stepped onto the field in front of the 4,500 fans in attendance.

Gonzaga controlled the field and the game for most of the first quarter and scored first.  With the help of eventual game MVP Daniel Wright and Black Monroe, St. John's was able to answer the Eagles' touchdown, tying the game 7-7. Wright then ran for 29 yards picking up a first down and was able to move the ball up the middle to give St. John's the lead 14-7. 

Throughout the gam, both teams turned over the ball several times; one St. John's turnover resulted in a Matt O'Donnel 95 yard touchdown interception for the Eagles to tie the game at 14-14. With the score going back and forth, fans were on the edge of their seats to see who would pull out a win. 

Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter, but St. John's turned it on during the fourth. Wright, playing both offense and defense for the Cadets, became too much for Gonzaga to handle. With Wright leading the team, St. John's scored two more touchdowns before the clock ran out, winning the game 27-21. 

As fans rushed the field and the team huddled up, Wright was awarded the MVP trophy and Medal and Coach Joe Patteson was presented the Great American Rivalry Series championship trophy.
