Great American Rivalry Series

From Lakeland High School: Wayne Peace

Wayne was a three-year starter in the Lakeland-Kathleen rivalry. During his career, he was a fullback in the 1978 season and a quarterback for the Dreadnaughts in 1979 and 1980.  His most memorable moment in the rivalry was running a 55-yard flea flicker in 1978 to win the game with little time left on the clock. Wayne would go on to play for the University of Florida where he was a four-year starter. Sid Kimbrell accepted the award on behalf of Mr. Peace.

From Kathleen High School: David Bowden
David played in the Lakeland-Kathleen rivalry his sophomore through senior years.  Kathleen won 2 out of 3 during David's time as quarterback, including a 44-0 win his senior season. David set a national high school record for career touchdown passes with 92, which stood until Xavier Lee broke the record a few years ago. He went on to the University of Florida, where he was an All-Southeastern Conference football and baseball star.
