Daniel Boone 48-David Crockett 12

November 1, 2010
Great American Rivalry Series

The citizens of Washington County TN were ready for "The Musket Bowl," as the air was crisp and lights were bright for high school football. Prior to the game, former David Crockett alum Trey Hensley performed for the near 10,000 fans who showed up for the game. After the concert, the fans were excited and ready for some football.

The David Crockett Pioneers came into the game depleted by injuries to key players, but were confident with the team they were able to field.

David Crockett surprised Daniel Boone early in the game after stopping Boone's first drive, then scoring on a quarterback run from Anthony Campbell. Boone grabbed the momentum right back by forcing a missed extra point and moved ahead 7-6 on their next possession with a 6-play, 89-yard drive, finished with a Cliff Sanders touchdown. A bad snap on a punt and a safety to give Daniel Boone a 9-6 lead.

The Blazers kept the pressure on throughout the first half and tacked on two more scores, plus a two point conversion, to take a 24-6 lead at the break.

Boone extinguished the hopes of any comeback with their first drive of the second half.  Hey opened the half with a 5-play drive that ended in a three-yard touchdown score by Tyler Shepherd, extending the lead to 31-6. After converting a 3rd and 24 on their next drive, Crockett was forced to punt on their next series of downs, and Boone capitalized with a field goal for a 28-point advantage.

After holding Crockett once more, Boone scored again on their next possession, an 8-play 61-yard drive which led to a 14-yard quarterback keeper. This pushed the lead to 41-6.

The Pioneers kept fighting until the bitter end and cut the Trailblazer lead to 48-12 late in the game on a 14-yard touchdown pass to Seth Wright. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for the Pioneers. The Trailblazers ran out the clock to take home the Great American Rivalry Series trophy and return the musket to Daniel Boone High School.
