2012 Rivalry Series
RECAP: Radnor 6, Lower Merion 2
March 9, 2010Great American Rivalry Series
After the Senior Night celebration, it was time for hockey! Although Radnor was expected to win, the Aces had a different idea. About four and a half minutes into the game, Lower Merion scored the first goal when Luke Penning netted the puck on assists from Ian Woolley and Jonathan Zeidman. It would be another five minutes before a goal was scored, as Radnor tied it up when Teddy Smith scored on passes from Dalton Morris and Billy Curtis. With just a minute left in the first, Sam Mannix scored another Red Raider goal with help from Scott Ball and Teddy Smith. This left Radnor leading 2-1 at the first intermission. The break after the first period was used to honor the scholar athlete award winners from each team. Angus Robertson of Lower Merion and Alex Crotty of Radnor received the scholarships presented by the Air Force.
The game was evenly matched in the second period. Thomas Rye scored the equalizer on an assist from Joe Stedeford at the mid-way point, and that would be the only goal of the period. The Aces felt pretty good about themselves heading into the third period with a 2-2 tie.
The puck dropped for the third period and Radnor flipped the switch, with Teddy Smith scoring the go-ahead goal just over a minute into play with an assist frmo Billy Curtis. It was still anyone’s game until the wheels fell off for the Aces, as Trip Farren and Billy Curtis scored goals just 16 seconds apart, putting the Red Raiders ahead 5-2. Teddy Smith then capped off his hat trick on an assist from Nicholas Lombardi, and the game ended in a 6-2 victory for the Radnor Red Raiders.
