2014 Rivalry Series
Boston English 14, Boston Latin 12
December 9, 2013Great American Rivalry Series
BOSTON, MA -- Boston English pulled off the shocker on Thanksgiving.
Emmanuel Almonte tossed the game-winning score as time expired to help the Boston English Eagles stun the Boston Latin Wolfpack for the first time since 1997 on Thursday at Harvard Stadium. More than 5,000 fans showed up for the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
With 14 seconds left to play and trailing 12-8, receiver Dejour Releford took a lateral pass and hit Jerome Penn for 38 yards on third-and-20. Then with no time left, Almonte (51 yards), who was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player, found Releford for the game-winning 7-yard score.
It was the first time Boston English has beaten Boston Latin in 16 tries. Boston Latin had won 46 of the last 50 and leads what is the oldest, continuous Thanksgiving game in high school history (1887) 77-37-13.
Roy Bahnam threw for 114 yards, including a 14-yard TD pass to Jack O'Toole that gave Boston Latin a 12-8 lead with 10 minutes to go.
This was the final game for both Boston English (7-4) and Boston Latin (5-6).
