CANTON, OH -- Massillon Washington got the best of Canton McKinley on Saturday night.
The Massillon Washington Tigers handed the Canton McKinley Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 34-7 in the annual "War of 1894" at Fawcett Stadium in front of more than 18,000 fans. The game was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
It was the third straight win for Massillon Washington over Canton McKinley (ranked fourth in the polls) in the oldest, continuously-played rivalry in Ohio. It now leads the all-time series between two of the winningest programs in the country 67-52-5.
Lyron Wilson was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after rushing for 184 yards. Danny Clark threw for 84 yards and a score for the Tigers, who clinched a playoff spot with the win.
The Tigers took a huge momentum lift into halftime. Leading 7-0, Marcus Whitfield blocked a field goal try by the Bulldogs, and after a mad scramble, Alex Dailey picked the ball up and ran 45 yards for the score as time expired.
Nikolas Ricks scored the only TD for Canton McKinley on an 80-yard run. Ohio State-recruit Eric Glover-Williams finished with 73 rushing yards.
