November 2, 2013Great American Rivalry Series
TROY, OH -- Piqua's big lead almost wasn't enough.
After leading by three TDs, the Piqua Indians held on for a 33-27 win over the Troy Trojans in the annual "Battle of Miami" on Friday night. More than 8,500 fans were at Troy Memorial Stadium, which played host to the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
Piqua led 21-0 and then 27-7 in the third quarter before Troy made things interesting. Quarterback Matt Barr scored from a yard away with 35 seconds left for the final margin, but the onside kick attempt failed and Piqua ran out the clock.
Trent Yeoman ran for 211 yards and three scores to be named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player. He ran for an 83-yard TD on his way to surpassing 2,000 yards for the season.
Miles Hibbler led the Trojans with 189 yards on the ground and two TDs.
Troy leads the all-time series 62-61-6 and has lost two straight after winning five in a row in one of Ohio's oldest rivalries, which dates back to 1899.
This was the final regular-season game for both Piqua (4-6) and Troy (3-6).
