BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius Crusaders and the St. Joe Collegiate Institute Marauders will renew their longtime rivalry on Saturday at 1 p.m. (EST) at Stransky Memorial Complex. More than 5,000 fans are expected to turn out for a game that’s part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The rivalry between schools separated by less than four miles began back in 1921 and is considered the best in western New York. Canisius won last season’s meeting 28-21.
In 2012, Canisius capped off an undefeated season under coach Rich Robbins with a 28-20 win over Bishop Timon-St. Jude in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association championship game. This season, they are 6-2 after beating Cardinal O’Hara 41-0. They are paced by senior quarterback Qadree Ollison, who has thrown for over 900 yards and double-digit scores.
After going 8-3 last season, the Dennis Gilbert-coached Marauders are 6-2 after a 15-6 win over Bishop Timon-St. Jude. Senior back Nigel Davis has rushed for over 870 yards and 10 TDs.
