Great American Rivalry Series

MOBILE, AL -- The canon will be orange.

The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets beat the Murphy Panthers 52-18 in the annual "Battle for the Canon" on Friday night at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. More than 10,000 witnessed the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.

The winner of one of the oldest rivalries in Alabama (1935) gets to paint the downtown canon in its school's colors. McGill-Toolen has won three straight to lead the all-time series 48-33-1.

Harry Satterwhite was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after throwing for 208 yards and four TDs -- all in the first half. He completed his first 11 passes and finished 16 for 18.

Ito Smith accounted for 152 yards and three TDs for the Yellow Jackets, who led 35-6 at halftime.

The Panthers' scores came on a 13-yard pass from Depriest Turner to Michael Hudson and a 1-yard run from Kameron Maye.

McGill-Toolen (8-1) hosts Sumter Central on Thursday night and Murphy (6-3) is at Vigor next Friday night.
