MEDFORD, OR -- Not this time.
The North Medford Black Tornado beat the South Medford Panthers 42-14 in the annual "Black and Blue Game" on Friday night at Spiegelberg Stadium. More than 6,000 fans came out for the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The Black Tornado had lost six straight in the series, including the last three games by a combined 125-10 score. They lead the all-time series 15-13.
Receiver Jared Evans set a series record with eight catches for 149 yards and three scores. He was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player.
Quarterback Troy Fowler completed all but five of his passes for 285 yards and three TDs for North Medford, which clinched its first Southwest Conference title since 2005 with its seventh straight win.
For the Panthers, quarterback Craig Contreas threw for 165 yards and two TDs, both to Mark Winans, who finished with three catches for 118 yards.
North Medford (7-1) hosts Roseburg next Friday night, while South Medford (2-6) is at Crater the same night. It's the regular-season finale for both teams.
