INVERNESS, FL -- Citrus is still perfect.
The Citrus Hurricanes dominated the Lecanto Panthers, 54-6 on Friday night at Citrus High School. A crowd of over 6,500 were at the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The Hurricanes are three wins away from being 10-0 for the first time since 1987. They have won three straight over the Panthers.
James Pouncey and Deion Moore combined for seven TDs for Citrus. Pouncey ran for 106 yards and four scores, while Moore threw for 59 yards with half of his six completions going for scores. Moore was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player.
Desmond Franklin opened the scoring with a 97-yard punt return for a TD (he also had a 55-yarder that got called back). Javian Clark added 105 yards on the ground for the Hurricanes.
Quarterback Travis McGee threw for 146 yards for the Panthers, who had one rushing yard in the fifth straight loss. Jonah Nightengale ran in their only score.
Citrus (7-0) travels to Gainesville next Friday night and Lecanto (2-5) goes to Williston the same night.
