October 12, 2013Great American Rivalry Series
VALDOSTA, GA -- The "Winnersville Classic" was certainly a classic.
In the lowest-scoring game in series history, the Lowndes Vikings edged the Valdosta Wildcats 3-0 on Friday night in front of over 11,000 fans at Martin Stadium. The game was part of the Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
Nick Hart provided the only points of the game, hitting a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter. The previous lowest-scoring game in the series was a Lowndes' 6-0 win in 1980.
With offense few and far between, defensive lineman Zack Copeland was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after recording nine tackles.
Quarterback Seth Shuman threw for 168 yards for the Wildcats, who missed two field goals and had another blocked.
The Vikings have won two straight in the series but still trail 34-18 overall.
Lowndes (5-2) is at Coffee next Friday night, while Valdosta (4-2) hosts Tift County the same night.
