IDAHO FALLS, ID -- The field goal posts at Ravsten Stadium will be black and orange for the next year.
The Idaho Falls Tigers led big early then pulled away in the second half to beat the Skyline Grizzlies 44-24 on Friday night in the annual "Emotion Bowl." Over 7,000 fans attended the game that was part of the 2013 Great American Rivalry Series presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and Hibbett Sports.
The Tigers had lost the last two in the series, which the Grizzlies own a 27-22 lead in. The two teams share the same field and the winner gets to paint the field goal posts in its colors for the next year.
Receiver Clayton Powell was named the Great American Rivalry Series Most Valuable Player after catching seven balls for 186 yards and two scores (75 and 49 yards). Quarterback A.J. Martin threw for 382 yards and three TDs, while Dylan Baker caught eight balls for 127 yards and a 61-yard score for Idaho Falls, which led 22-0 to start the game.
Quarterback Zak Bennett threw for 228 yards and accounted for two scores for Skyline, which cut the lead to 22-16 at halftime.
Skyline (2-3) hosts next Friday night, while Idaho Falls (5-0) hosts Rigby the following week after a bye.
