It was a sunny day in Cumberland, Maryland with the entire town anticipating this in-town Rivalry. Fort Hill was looking to continue their undefeated season and Allegany was looking to get a win that would put them into the playoffs. It was without a doubt the biggest game of the season for both teams. As one fan said, “Who cares about going to state, let’s just beat Allegany.”
This historic battle is one of the biggest rivalries in the state of Maryland. The first half of the game was full of defense stops. It was evident that the Fort Hill and Allegany were familiar with each other’s style of play.
It wasn’t until the second half that Fort Hill opened up their running game to take the lead and never look back. Scholar-Athlete Dakota Welsh played an outstanding for his team, but teammate Sam Walker took home the MVP with Dakota likely coming in at a close second.
The final score of the game was 17-7 with the Fort Hill High School on top. Maybe there will be a rematch in the play-offs.
