2012 Rivalry Series
Northside vs. Warner Robins - 11/2/12 - 7:30PM (EDT)
October 30, 2012Great American Rivalry Series
The Northside Eagles and the Warner Robins Demons will meet this Friday night as they have every year since 1964. Known as “The Showdown at the MAC”, this game is one of the most heated rivalries in the state of Georgia, where the town of Warner Robins splits in half. The Demons won last season’s showdown 32-24. The win helped extend their lead in the all-time series to 33-21. Both teams will put their perfect 5-0 league records on the line when they face each other at McConnell-Talbert Stadium Friday. The teams have combined to win 35 regional championships in Georgia. Northside enters the game ranked #45 nationally by Rivals.com.
The Warner Robins Demons are right on pace to match, if not surpass, last season’s success. The Demons went 13-1 in 2011 before losing in the semi-finals of the 4A playoffs. This year, the Demons are 7-1 and look primed to make another great playoff run. Junior Caden Johnston leads the Demon offense under center but it will be the senior DD Wright and junior Danny Hite Jr. who will shine in the backfield. Senior Deanthony Mack will also see some carries out of the backfield of this run-heavy offense. Mack also leads the team in receiving as well. Defensively, the secondary is led by the senior Rod Harris at defensive back. Joining him in the secondary will be junior Dyvonte Collins, sophomore Keondray Sanders and senior Michael Callaway. The defense will be a big question mark coming into the game against the Eagles. If the Demons can stop the dynamic Eagle running attack, then they should be able to pull off a win.
Head coach Kevin Kinsler’s Northside Eagles had a very similar season to the Demons last year. The Eagles went 13-1 to claim the 4A Region 1 championship before losing in the semi-finals of the 4A playoffs. Just as the Demons, Northside looks poised to match last season’s success. The Eagles are a perfect 8-0 on the season, much thanks to their defense. In 5 region games this season, the defense has allowed just 17 points with 3 shutouts while the offense has poured out 223 points. The Eagles are led on offense by their running quarterback Glenn Smith. Most of the offensive production will come from their 3-headed running attack. Seniors Keshun Hill, Curtis Martin and Deonte Bryant will all play their part in the explosive Eagle running attack. In last weekend’s victory of Greenbrier, Hill amassed almost 200 all-purpose yards on just 4 touches, including a 70-yard rushing TD to go with a 50-yard punt return for a TD. Hill and Bryant combined to score 4 touchdowns for the Eagles. The Eagle defense has allowed just over 5 points per game. Only 2 teams have scored double digits on them all season. If the defense holds the Demons to under 10 points, look for the Eagles to come out with the victory in this one.
