Heavy rains throughout the game did not undermine the 2009 installment of the annual Spaghetti Bowl between the Inglemoor Vikings (4-2) and the Bothell Cougars (6-0).
The slippery conditions, however, created nine fumbles and ultimately led to three turnovers. As Inglemoor head coach Frank Naish commented before the game, “…rain is a great leveler…” Coach Naish was hopeful that the sloppy conditions would give his team, the clear underdogs, a chance to keep the game close and surprise the Bothell Cougars in the fourth quarter with an upset.
This game plan seemed to work during the first half, as the Cougars of Bothell only enjoyed a 12-0 lead and the Vikings were having some success moving the football, though they had not been able to get on the scoreboard. However, as the second half wore on it was clear the evening belonged to Bothell as they shut out the Vikings of Inglemoor for the second straight year and went on to win 26-0.
The eventual MVP of this Great American Rivalry Series game was Bothell junior running back Luke Proulx, who ran for 215 yards on 24 carries and scored an impressive three touchdowns.
The game was played at Pop Keeney Stadium in Kenmore WA, which is home to high schools that play football in the North Shore School District.
