The annual “Battle of the Bell” rivalry game, which pits Edison vs. Fountain Valley, showed why the Edison Chargers are a nationally ranked team. In front of over 10,000 fans, the Chargers extended their winning streak with a 21-3 victory over the Fountain Valley Barons for the eighth consecutive season.

The Chargers did not waste any time, moving down the field on their opening drive.  Quarterback Aleksander Torgersen connected with his teammate over the middle of the field for first down yardage, and the senior wideout broke several tackles and found his way into the end zone for a 39-yard touchdown reception, giving the Chargers a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.  Fountain Valley then had the ball but the Barons were forced to kick the ball on their own 32-yard line bringing the score 7-3, Edison.

With a combined effort from the offense and defense, Edison controlled the game after halftime.  Trailing 7-3 at halftime, Fountain Valley started the third quarter with the ball at its own 14-yard line. The Barons used up over 7 minutes of clock, advancing the ball to the Chargers 10-yard line. Instead of a first-and-goal opportunity that could have taken the lead, the Barons fumbled a snap, had a touchdown pass negated by a holding penalty and threw an incompletion and ended up missing a field goal.

The clocked ticked down with the Edison Chargers extending their winning streak as they were taking home the bell for yet another year.  The Charger crowd cheered and celebrated their victory in the 2012 “Battle for the Bell” with the Great American Rivalry Series as the most valuable player of the game was #21  Marquis Ross.
