Sherwood-35 Wilsonville-14

October 15, 2012
Great American Rivalry Series

It was a soggy, rainy night in Wilsonville, Oregon as the #1 Wilsonville Wildcats hosted the #3 Sherwood Bowmen. Wilsonville won the opening coin toss and elected to defer to the 2nd half.

Sherwood received the opening kickoff and drove it straight down the field with little problem. The drive resulted in a Mickey Schaefer 7-yard touchdown run to put the Bowmen on top early, 7-0. This would be a close as the game would get as the Bowmen turned this one into a blowout. After Wilsonville could not get anything going on offense, Sherwood takes the ball and drives right back down the field for a touchdown. The 33-yard rushing touchdown by Cristian Morris extended their lead to 13-0 after the missed PAT. The first quarter closed with the score still standing at 13-0. Wilsonville begins to drive in the 2nd quarter but end up turning it over as Sherwood intercepts the ball with 9 minutes left in the half. Sherwood scored again before half on a Morris 11-yard rushing touchdown to take a 19-0 lead into the locker room.

Wilsonville received the 2nd half kickoff and could not muster up any momentum as the ball went back over to Sherwood. Cristian Morris added his 3rd touchdown of the night, this time on a 38-yard run. The Bowmen went for 2 and converted to extend their lead to 27-0. Wilsonville finally got on the scoreboard midway through the 3rd quarter on a Tanner Shipley 22-yard run. The score was now 27-7 in favor of the Bowmen. Minutes after, Wilsonville got the ball back and Shipley scored again, this time on a 59-yard scamper to bring the Wildcats within 13, 27-14. With just under a minute to play in the 3rd, Scott Skurdahl of Sherwood scored on a 1-yard plunge. Morris caught a Joseph Balfour pass to convert on the 2-point attempt to bring the Sherwood lead to 35-14. Sherwood did a great job of managing the clock in the 4th quarter as neither team scored.

Cristian Morris received the MVP trophy for his performance, Morris finished with 130 yards on 11 carries with 3 touchdowns. He also added 2 interceptions on defense.
