Great American Rivalry Series Action Continues Into Week 7 Of The Series!

WEEK SEVEN (7 GAMES)
This weekend, the Great American Rivalry Series travels to seven states, from coast to coast, to shine the spotlight on the best in classic grid-iron clashes! This week's match-ups include:


Friday, October 9, 7:00pm EST
Muskegon
vs. Rockford
Muskegon MI

Longtime rivals the Muskegon Big Reds and the Rockford Rams will butt heads on Friday, October 9 at 7:00pm in their Great American Rivalry Series debut. Gates open at 6:00pm at Hackley Stadium with 10,000 fans expected to come out and pack the stands. The rivalry began in 2001, with the two teams meeting for the first two times in the state play-offs, with Muskegon winning both. In 2007, the game was the subject of an NFL Films documentary, and in 2008 both teams won state titles in different divisions.

Idaho Falls
vs. Skyline
Idaho Falls ID

On Friday, October 9, 43-year old rivals Idaho Falls Tigers and Skyline Grizzlies will meet for the annual “Emotion Bowl” contest. Kickoff is at 7pm at the shared Ravsten Stadium. Over 5,000 fans are expected to come out and pack the stands to witness this intense and historic contest. This rivalry dates back to 1966, with Idaho Falls leading the all-time series record 28-24. The Tigers have clinched the victory the past two consecutive years, so the Grizzlies are up for revenge and looking to paint the orange goalposts at Ravsten Stadium with a fresh coat of blue.

Long Beach Poly
vs. Lakewood
Long Beach CA

For the first time, the Great American Rivalry Series will feature longtime rivals Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits and Lakewood Lancers on Friday, October 9, at 7:00pm. Over 12,000 fans are expected to come out to Vets Stadium for this intense historic contest. Lakewood is out for vengeance, as Poly has not lost a league game since 1994 and has not lost to Lakewood since 1982.

St. Francis DeSales
vs. Bishop Watterson
Columbus OH

On Friday, October 9, at 7:30pm, St. Francis DeSales and Bishop Watterson will take the field for week seven of the 2009 Great American Rivalry Series. Gates open at 5:30pm. Upwards of 10,000 fans are expected to come out to Alumni Stadium to witness Ohio high school football at its best. The DeSales-Watterson rumble dates back to1962, with Watterson leading the series 33-18-1. Many people consider this the premier high school rivalry in central Ohio.

vs. Grimsley
Greensboro NC

On Friday, October 9, at 7:30pm, the Walter Page High School Pirates and the Grimsley High School Whirlies take the field in this rivalry that dates back to 1959. Over 9,000 fans are expected to come out and pack the stands, more than half of them former Pirates and Whirlies who carry an undying passion that fuels the fierce but friendly cross-town rivalry. For many, this is the one game all year they refuse to miss. The rivalry also spawned an annual Page-Grimsley golf tournament, raising money for the schools’ athletics departments.

Lowndes
vs. Valdosta
Valdosta GA

On Friday, October 9, at 8:00pm, longtime rivals the Lowndes Vikings and the Valdosta Wildcats will take the field for Georgia football at its finest. This tradition rich, annual rumble dates back to 1968, with the Valdosta Wildcats leading the series 33-14-0. Last year, Lowndes won the match 14-7.

Saturday, October 10, 1:30 pm EST
West Islip
vs. East Islip
West Islip NY

For the second time, the Great American Rivalry Series travels to West Islip to cover the action on Saturday, October 10, at 1:30pm as “backyard rivals” the West Islip Lions and the East Islip Redmen will take the field. The rivalry dates back to 1957, with West Islip leading the series 15-13-3. With two of the most successful teams on Long Island meeting head-on, this game often has play-off implications or is played during the play-offs. Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is an East Islip alumnus.


As part of the Series, each winning team earns bragging rights and the coveted Great American Rivalry Series Champion trophy. The game’s Most Valuable Player is also named by media in attendance, and the Series awards a college scholarship to the top student-athlete from each team, presented prior to the game.
