Great American Rivalry Series

The Jesuit Blue Jays hosted the Holy Cross Tigers in Louisiana's oldest high school football rivalry. The 93rd meeting between the two schools did not disappoint fans as the Blue Jays put on a defensive clinic in a 21-7 victory Friday night to stretch their winning streak to five in the series.

The Blue Jays were led by senior quarterback Tanner Lee who threw for 143 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Charles Jackson led the Jesuit running attack with 19 carries for 74 yards on the ground to go along with a touchdown. Lee put the Blue Jays on the scoreboard first with a 14-yard strike to junior Nathan Zimmer in the opening of the second quarter. Jesuit scored later in the second behind senior running back Kalan Minnard's run to put the Blue Jays up 14-0. It looked as if the Blue Jays would take that lead into the half but Holy Cross junior quarterback James Tabary had other plans. As the clock hit :00, Tabary hoisted up a 44-yard Hail Mary that connected with sophomore wide receiver Michael Chigbu after being tipped by a Jesuit defender. Jesuit went into halftime with a 14-7 lead.

The Blue Jays started off the second half with a 12-play, 73-yard drive that ended in a Jackson 1-yard touchdown run. That would be the last score of the game as Jesuit's defense shut down the Tiger offense the rest of the half. Tabary led the Tigers with 179 yards in the air with a touchdown and interception. Jesuit Head Coach Wayde Keiser improved to 5-1 against Holy Cross.

The MVP of the game was running back Charles Jackson.
