2012 Rivalry Series
St Vincent St Mary-49 Walsh Jesuit-10
September 4, 2012Great American Rivalry Series
The opening quarter of the St Vincent St Mary vs. Walsh Jesuit game did not live up to the billing set by last year's rivalry game. At the end of the first quarter the score was 3-0 with Walsh Jesuit leading. The Warriors scored on a 23-yard field goal by junior Mike Knoll. The second quarter was a different story.
The Fighting Irish scored 3 straight touchdowns in the 2nd quarter on their way to a 28-10 half-time lead. The scoring started off when Senior Jordan Hargrove caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from senior Clayton Uecker to put the Irish up 7-3 with 10:33 left in the half. Sophomore running back Vince Lockett put the Irish up 14-3 with a 9-yard touchdown run with 7 minutes left in the half. The scoring was capped off when senior Fransohn Bickley took a punt 81 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. The Warriors countered with a touchdown of their own when junior Bryan DiCillo ran one in for a 59-yard touchdown to make the score 21-10 with 2:16 left in the half. St Vincent St Mary was not done yet. Right before haltime, Uecker had the Fighting Irish running the two-minute offense. He hoisted a long pass to Bickley that was caught for a 34-yard touchdown with just 15 seconds left in the half to finish off a 80-yard scoring drive.
The second half opened up with a St. V-M touchdown only 2 minutes into the half. Junior Parris Campbell Jr. scored on a 7-yard run to put the Irish up 35-10. Hargrove scored again, this time on a 60-yard bomb from Uecker to put the Irish up 42-10. Walsh Jesuit looks like the finally are ready to answer as the march the ball right back down the field. They turned the ball over deep in Irish territory to give the ball right back. The Irish run the ball back down the field to take some of the clock off. The drive ended in a touchdown by senior Mike Pruiett who scored on a 1-yard plunge to take a 49-10 lead with just 6 minutes left in the game.
The game ended with the most lopsided margin in the series since 2004. It was the most points that Walsh Jesuit has given up in program history, surpassing last year's score of 48-46. St. V-M was led on defense by junior Dante Booker at linebacker. Booker is listed at 6'4" 215 lbs. and is currently fielding offers from: Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois, Michigan State, and other Big 10 schools. He is the #1 overall recruit in Ohio.
