2012 Rivalry Series
Great American Rivalry Series opens with River City Rivalry
August 24, 2009Great American Rivalry Series
The most heated high school rivalry in North Alabama, the "River City" rivalry. Last year's game was the first time in the contest's 44-year history the two rivals have ever met for the season opener, and it evidently won't be the last. The Decatur Red Raiders lead the overall series 32-14, and with last year's 41-14 victory, Austin's Black Bears will be up for some serious revenge. The two teams share the 9,000-seat Ogle Stadium and this matchup consistently draws sellout crowds. Austin Black Bears and Decatur Red Raiders will take the field and kickoff the 2009 Great American Rivalry Series at 7:30pm on Friday, August 28. Bring on the face painting, crowd cheering, car-pooling, cookouts, pep rallies, halftime showdowns, hometown pride and mud-slinging battles in the trenches.
