Cards recover, sweep weekend games

February 6, 2012
By James Stephens of George Rogers Clark High School

It was the perfect ending on Senior day for a group of seniors that was expected to do absolutely nothing. Senior Trevor Gray's half-court buzzer beater was the final touch on a 59-40 win over South Laurel Saturday afternoon at Letcher Norton Gymnasium.

Clark was led in scoring by senior Adam Fatkin with 20 points, and senior Andrew Howe made the first start of his high school career and certainly made the best of it. Howe scored seven points, blocking one shot, with one assist and three rebounds. Gray also made his first start.

On Friday night the Cardinals took down Region 10 rival Mason County 59-44 at home. Mason was led by Tyler Black who had just come back from injury, but seemed to be the only source of offense for the Royals.

The Cards pulled away in the fourth quarter and never looked back as seniors Bopper Stenzel and Adam Fatkin led the Cards in scoring and weren't answered by the Royals.

Clark plays next at Simon Kenton (17-7) on Friday February 10 in Covington at 7:30 PM.
