Red Devils Roll Into Championship

By Denis Vass of Graham High School The Lady Devils hosted Durham School of the Arts tonight in the first round of the Don Amos Holiday Classic. Graham (7-4) sprinted out to a 19-4 first period lead enroute to a 63-25 smashing of the Lady Bulldogs (1-8). Graham led 44-6 at the half, and Coach Ward substituted freely the entore second half.
Taylor Fluette had the hot hand tonight, scorching the twine for 18 points. She canned four three-point baskets.
Kay Kay Wilson added 9 points, while the Bulldogs were able to hold Caroline Enoch to single digits in scoring, with 8. BrieAna Snipes added 8 points, and also connected on 2 three-point baskets.
The Lady Devils canned 8 baskets from long range against D.S.A's zone defense.
Durham School of the Arts was led by Simone Simpson, who tallied 9 points, and Samantha Wilkison, who had 8.
The Lady Devils will play the winner of tomorrow's game between Cummings and Raleigh Broughton on Friday afternoon at 5:00 for the Ladies Championship.
In the nightcap, Graham's boys took 24 minutes to get going. The game was nip-and-tuck for the first three quarters, with neither team able to mount any kind of serious run.
Graham (7-4) led 14-9 after one period of play, and was tied at 30-all at the half. The Red Devils led 44-43 after the third period.
In the fourth period, it all started to come to gether for the Red Devils, while the Bulldogs (6-2) unraveled under the relentless pressure of the Red Devils.
Kendall Patterson scored 9, while Justin Cousin 7, in the final frame to help Graham outscore D.S.A by a 26-13 margin to claim a 70-56 win and jump into Friday's chamionship game between the winner of tomorrow's game between Williams and Rivermill.
Justin Cousin led all scorers with 25, while Kendall Patterson added 23.
Kemiionne Feely-Lewis paced the Bulldogs with 20 points, while Xavier Hoggs supplied 13.
