JV Football Grounds Jets
October 6, 2011
By Denis Vass of Graham High School The Graham JV won their second straight game in convincing fashion tonight, smashing the Jets of Jordan Matthews by a 26-8 score.
Damien Dawkins carried the ball 19 times for 117 yards, and scored twice, once on a 64 yard romp with 1:53 left in the third quarter, and once on a 13 yard scamper with 1:02 remaining.
Tamarcus Mcelvaine, playing quarterback for the second straight game, scored once on a 12 yard run at the 5:38 mark in the first quarter, and passed for 63 yards, completing 3 of his 8 passes. Mcelvaine also handled the punting and kickoff duties, as well as playing defensive back.
Brent Baldwin had a big impact in the secondary. He picked off two Jets passes for interceptions. His second came with 0:00 showing on the socreboard, and he was 4 or 5 yards deep in the endzone. He turned on his afterburners, and flew to the opposite endzone for Graham's final points. He also knocked down numerous passes.
Graham's defense thoroughly grounded the Jets. Jordan Matthews only managed to carry the ball 14 times, for 32 yards. They took to the air, getting 149 yards on a 7 of 22 passing night. Graham's only lapse on defense was when they allowed a 65 yard pass to go for a touchdown.
