February 11, 2009 By Denis Vass of Graham High School
In tonight's Mid-State 2-A Conference action in the final week of the regular season, Graham posted another triple-header sweep against visiting Orange High School
the JV boys bolted out to a 13 point 2nd half lead then held on to win by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin 64-63.
In the girl's game, despite being down to 9 players, the Red Devils (19-3, 15-1) picked up the intensity level that they carried over from Saturday's game with Dudley and cruised to a 67-50 win.
Beth Miller showed her Senior leadership as she led the way tonight for Graham with 22 points, 14 assists, and 7 rebounds. Miller connected on 6 of 9 free throws down the strech to seal Graham's win. Shelby Hall continued to show her improvement, as she tossed in 14 points and hauled down 8 rebounds to go along with her 4 steals. Logan Apple hit 3 of her 5 three-point attempts and scored 13 points.
Bianaca Ricksburg was the lone Panther in double figures as she had a game-high 26 points.
In the nightcap, the Graham boys (12-10, 10-6) held Orange to 2 field goals in the 1st and 4th periods as they flexed their defensive muscle to shut down the Panthers offense. Graham won 65-54.
Orange managed to cut Graham's lead down to 3 but Graham responded with a 8-2 run late in the 4th quarter.
Michael Wooten continued his hot shooting, connecting on 5 three-point shots to lead Graham with 23 points. Dominique Pass added 12 points, 10 rebounds (5 offensive), and 4 assists. Marquise Richmond and Nolan Solis added 8 each. Greonki Coble suplied 8 assists.
