Jets Shoot Down Red Devils
April 20, 2011By Denis Vass of Graham High School
Casey Golden set the tone for the game tonight, as he smashed the first pitch offered by Graham's pitcher Dillon Brown over the left center fied wall for a 1-0 Jet lead.
The Jets scored once more in the first inning, then Golden smashed another ball in nearly the same spot when he came to bat in the second inning to stake Jordan Matthews to a 3-0 lead.
His towering home runs must have inspired his team mates, as Dalton Lindley and Chip Perry also teed off with shots that cleared the fence. One day after being no-hit by Providence Grove, the Jets took their frustrations out on Graham as they pounded out 11 hits enroute to a 7-2 win.
With the win, Graham drops to 7-8, and 6-3 in the Mid-State 2-A Conference. Jordan Matthews improved to 12-5, 6-4.
Golden led the Jets, going 3-for-4, scoring 3 runs, and driving in 2. Heath Causey was 2-4. Dalton Lindley pitched a complete-game, 7 inning gem to pick up the win. He surrendered 6 hits, struck out 7, while walking 1. He gave up 2 runs, both unearned.
Rigoberto Mendoza put on a show for his last game at home in the regular season on Senior Night. He was 3-for-3 with an RBI to raise his batting average to .512
Dillon Brown suffered the loss, going 7 innings, giving up all 7 runs on 11 hits.
Graham will play Friday evening April 22nd in the 1st round of the Graham Boosters Easter Baseball Tournament against Western Alamance at 7:00.
