Lady Devils Knock Off 2nd Straight #1

By Denis Vass of Graham High School For the second straight game, the Lady Devils took on a #1 seed, and proceeded to steamroll right through into the regional finals next week in Fayetteville.
With Caroline Enoch and Kayla Lea leading the way, Graham (22-6) thoroughly smashed host Granville Central (25-4) in the second half to win easily 61-48.
Once again, they displayed the three traits-determination, grit, and poise that carried them Wednesday against Bunn. Although Graham was up 19-14 after the first quarter, a disastrous second quarter that would have rattled any lesser team befell the Lady Devils. They were outscored 13-4, and went into the locker rool trailing 27-23. The Lady Devils only managed one basket in 16 attempts (6%). But not from lack of trying. Even though the shots were not falling, they continued to hound the Panthers defensivels, limiting them to a 27% first half shooting (12 of 43).
After a meeting in the locker room at the half, the Lady Devils came out gunning the second half. Caroline Enoch and Kaila Lea put on one of the most impressive halves ever seen. Graham gradually pulled even with the Panthers after falling beihing by 7 at 30-23. They ended the third quarter with a 8-0 run to grab a 42-37 lead heading into the final quarter, capped by a 3 point basket by Tanzanea Reed.
Most importantly, the Lady Devils thoroughly clamped down on everybody on Granville Central except their star Kelya Atkins. Atkins scored 18 of the Panther's 21 second half points. Briana Haith had the other 3 points.
Caroline Enoch poured in 14 of her 20 points, and snared 8 of her 20 rebounds. She also had 2 steals and a block the second half. Kaila Lea added 12 of her 19 points the second half, while grabbing 6 rebounds, passing out 5 assists, and blocking 3 Panther shots the second half. Lea finished the game with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 blocks.
Logan Apple strggled to find her shooting touch, and finished with 6 points. She recorded 5 rebounds. Neshea Cundif had 7 rebounds, while BriAna Snipes added 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Tanzanea Reed connected on two three point baskets for 6 points.
Granville Central was lef by Kalya Atkins, who scored 27 of the Panther's 48 points. Briana Haith added 8, while Dominique Moore threw in 7.
The Lady Devils shot 45% from the floor in the pivotal 2nd half (16 of 36) while thoroughly harrassing the Panthers into a 17% shooting half (6 of 36). Graham outscored Granville Central 38-21 in the second half.
Graham will await the Regional pairings tomorrow. The Lady Devils are the lone remaining team from the Mid-State Conference, boys and girls.
