Red Devils Roll in Playoff Opener

GRAHAM — It fell into place pretty much how the Graham boys’ soccer team drew it up Wednesday night.
The Red Devils blitzed visiting Midway early on the way to a 6-3 victory in the first round of the Class 2-A state playoffs.
“Things work out sometimes,” said junior forward Robert Galvan, who scored three goals. “That’s the important part.”
The Red Devils (13-2-2) move on to a second-round game Saturday at Carrboro, which topped Graham twice in regular-season meetings in the Mid-State 2-A Conference. Carrboro advanced by defeating Bunn in the first round.
But for now, the Red Devils can savor a splendid beginning to the postseason.
“I was pleased, surprised,” coach Bruce Shepherd said about the efficiency by which Graham took control. “I was happy we could put a couple in early. We thought it would be important if we could pressure their backs. … I thought we moved the ball well. I thought we defended well.”
Daniel Antunez opened the scoring and Eric Fuentes added two goals for Graham. Fuentes and Galvan both provided an assist.
Midway’s Faustino Espino scored three goals, all in the final 9½ minutes after the Raiders (6-8-3) fell into a six-goal deficit
