Lady Devils Fall In Eastern Semifinals

By Denis Vass of Graham High SchoolFor the fourth time this season, Graham faced Jordan-Matthews in girls’ basketball. For the third consecutive meeting, the Red Devils were unable to ground the Jets.
Mylia Garner scored 21 points and Erin Bristow added 20 with 19 rebounds as Jordan-Matthews defeated Graham 60-47 in the semifinals of the Class 2-A Eastern Regionals at Crown Arena.
Jordan-Matthews (27-4) will advance to the regional finals, facingKinston, which defeated Bunn 49-45 in its semifinal game, in tonight’s game.
Although the season came to a bitter end, Graham coach Melinda Goodson found positives in her first season.
“In a word, this season was unbelievable,” Goodson said. “In my first year, the girls had to be used to my system and I didn’t think we would make it this far. We fought hard throughout the game, but that second quarter did us in. We just have to go to work and get better for next season.”
