The Lady Devils took on Jordan Matthews tonight in the Mid-State Conference Tournament Semi-Finals, and the Jet's inside game wore the smaller Devils down as Jordan Matthews cruised to an easy 63-39 win. Jordan Matthews will face off tomorrow night at Bartlett Yancey against Reidsville to determine the league's #1 seed in the state playoffs.
Graham was able to rally early in the third quarter to tie the game at 24-all, but it was all Jets after that.
Kay Kay Wilson led Graham (17-9) with 9 points, while Jasmine Atkins added 8.
The boys went back and forth in the second semi-final game against Eastern Randolph. Graham took a 20-16 first period lead. Courtney Edmonds scored 11 of Graham's first 16 points, until some of the other players warmed up.
The Wildcats came back to go ahead briefly before Graham made some defensive stops and went on a run to lead 38-32 at the half. The Red Devils had a hard time finding the net on their three point shots, but they did sink five the first half.
The Red Devils built up a 9 point lead heading into the stretch, and knocked down 11 of 16 free throws the final period to hold off the pesky Wildcats 67-61.
Kendall Patterson led all scorers with 22 points. Courtney Edmonds scored all 11 of his points the first period.
Corey Yahn led Eastern Randolph with 15 points, with Dijuan Williams supplying 12.
The Red Devils have won their last 8 games dating back to January 23rd, when Eastern Randolph handed them a double-overtime loss. With the win, Graham moves to 21-5. Eastern Randolph falls to 15-10.
The Red Devils will face their closest foe in the championship match tomorrow night-Cummings, a mere 1.6 miles as the crow flies, again at Bartlett Yancey at 7:30.
Come and support the Red Devils!
