A Split Decision

By Denis Vass of Graham High SchoolThe boys teams both defeated the Jets tonight in Siler City, with the JV's winning 90-77, while the Varsity rolled 64-53.
The JV's were smashing the Jets by 30 points in the third period, before the Jets took off, mounted a furious comeback and cut the lead to 7 points with 2 minutes to go before the Devil Pups regrouped and hit 8 free throws the last minute to survive.
The JV;s improve to 15-5, 6-4 in the conference.
The Varsity boys came out flat, scoring only 7 points the first period, falling behind 17-7. They more than made up for that, exploding for 23 second period points, while thoroughly frustrating the Jets and holding them to 7 points to open a 30-24 halftime lead. Graham was able to maintain ther lead the entire second half as they rolled to their 17th win against 5 losses. The Red Devils improve to 8-2 in the Mid-State. Jordan Matthews falls to 16-4, 4-4 in the conference.
Troy Bowedn led the Red Devils with 22 points, while Kendall Patterson scored 20 and Antonio Turner supplying 11.Derek Hamilton led Jordan Matthews with 25 points.
The Lady Devils were handed their first loss after a 9-game winning streak, losing their first conference game 59-47. The Lady Devils were bedeviled with missed free throws, turnovers, and lackadaisical play the final period as the Lady Jets rolled.
With the loss, Graham falls to 14-8, 9-1. Brianna Snipes led Graham with 15 points, nailing 4 three point baskets, while Jasmine Atkins added 13 and Kay Kay Wilson 12. Myla Garner led all scorers with 24 for the Lady Jets.
Graham travels to Redsville to take on the Rams. The Lady Devils face another tall task of trying to defeat a highly ranked opponent at home. The Varsity boys are seeking to stay in second place in the conference.
